Chinese electric vehicle manufacturers exported over 60,000 vehicles to Europe in September, marking the second highest number of models exported, ahead of the additional tariffs imposed by the European Union coming into effect.
It should be noted that the European Commission approved the introduction of customs duties of up to 35.3% on Chinese car manufacturers, including BYD, Geely, and SAIC.
According to the executive, the customs duties will be applied in addition to the normal 10% EU car tax and are expected to take effect at the end of October.
In an effort to anticipate the arrival of the new tariffs, Chinese companies shipped a total of 60,517 electric vehicles to Europe in September, a 61% increase compared to last year, according to customs data revealed by “Automotive News Europe.”
This number is only surpassed by the 67,455 vehicles exported to Europe in October 2023, when the European Commission announced that it was initiating an anti-subsidy investigation into electric vehicles manufactured in China.
