In November, according to preliminary figures from Dataforce, which represent 97% of total new car sales in the European Union (EU), United Kingdom, and EFTA (Iceland, Norway, and Switzerland), Chinese manufacturers combined registered 78,358 units, growing by 108% compared to the same month in 2024, in a market that recorded a growth of 2.2%, to about 1.05 million units. Thus, comparing November of last year with November 2025, there is impressive progress in the market share of manufacturers based in China, from 3.6% to 7.4%.
BYD was the Chinese brand that contributed the most to this result, with an increase in sales of 230%, to 20,281 cars. This also means that it reduced the gap with MG (SAIC), which also recorded growth (but of “only” 20%), delivering 23,133 units – that is, it only registered 2,852 more cars than its rival and compatriot (in October it had sold 12,997 more units than BYD). Other very active contributors to the progress of Chinese manufacturers in Europe include: Jaecoo and Omoda, brands from Chery (11,596 units), and Leapmotor, a “protected” brand of Stellantis (5,543 units).

In the year-to-date, and due to a combined growth of 95% in a market that grew only 1.8%, reaching 12.1 million units, Chinese brands together surpassed, for the first time, 700,000 new cars sold between January and November – thus, the share of 3% in 2024 rose to 5.8% in 2025. During this 11-month period, MG sales increased by 26%, to 272,484 units, while BYD’s sales progressed by 117%, to 158,178 units.
By model, the Seal U, BYD’s SUV, was the best-selling plug-in hybrid in Europe in November, a result that also places it in first position for the year-to-date, ahead of the PHEV version of the VW Tiguan. Among the ten best-selling plug-in hybrids, there is another Chinese car: the Jaecoo 7 – fifth in the November ranking, and eighth in the first eleven months of 2025.
Diving deeper into the November numbers, there are other highlights: for the first time, a Chinese car made it into the Top 10 of the best-selling electric vehicles in Europe (the BYD Dolphin Surf, with 5,632 units, achieved exactly the 10th position); and Leapmotor surprised in the city car category, with the T03 ranking fifth in the sales table for November, with 3,568 units sold.
