Chery is the latest car manufacturer to express its intention to move forward with electric vehicles equipped with solid-state batteries as early as 2026.
The Chinese company revealed that it is working on the development of this technology, seen as the future for 100% electric models, and that the prototypes where the new batteries are being tested are equipped with batteries with a density of 400 Wh/kg, which will be increased to 600 Wh/kg by 2025.
In this regard, Chery states that it will be ready to install the first solid-state batteries in electric vehicles in 2026 before starting large-scale production in 2027.
The Chinese brand believes that its solid-state batteries will be capable of providing a range of up to 1500 km on a single charge.
It is worth noting that solid-state batteries have a higher energy density, approximately twice that of conventional lithium-ion batteries, significantly shorter charging times due to superior charge and discharge performance, and lower costs due to the use of less expensive materials.
