“Checo’s comeback will be historic”: Antonio Perez predicts Sergio Perez’s F1 resurgence

Sergio Perez’s turbulent exit from Red Bull may have marked the end of a challenging chapter, but his father, Antonio Perez, insists the best is yet to come for the Mexican driver. Speaking confidently about his son’s future, Perez Sr. believes Sergio’s return to Formula 1 will be nothing short of legendary.

A rocky end at Red Bull

Perez’s tenure with Red Bull concluded at the end of the 2024 season following a difficult campaign marred by underperformance. Struggling to tame the temperamental RB20, Perez finished a staggering 285 points behind teammate Max Verstappen. The team, once dominant in the Constructors’ Championship, tumbled to third, leaving Perez as a scapegoat for their decline.

Despite his setbacks, Perez’s four-year stint at Red Bull yielded five victories and cemented his reputation as a resilient competitor. However, for his father, Sergio’s F1 story is far from over.

Antonio Perez’s bold prediction

Speaking to Soy Motor, Perez Sr. expressed unwavering faith in his son’s ability to bounce back stronger.

“The best version of Checo Pérez is yet to come,” he proclaimed. “What he’s done so far is only the beginning. What’s coming will be historic, I assure you.”

Perez Sr. highlighted his son’s global stature, claiming, “He is the Mexican, the best-known Latin American in the world today, above footballers and celebrities.” He also dismissed the notion that the Pérez family’s time in Formula 1 had come to an end, asserting, “We Pérez have not left F1.”

Support from F1 heavyweights

While Perez evaluates his next steps, key figures in Formula 1 have rallied behind the prospect of his return. Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko hinted at potential opportunities in 2026, despite Perez facing a year on the sidelines.

“As an experienced driver, there can always be new opportunities for him,” Marko told Sport.de.

Similarly, Red Bull team boss Christian Horner suggested that Cadillac, set to enter F1 as an 11th team, could benefit from Perez’s wealth of experience. “I wouldn’t be surprised if they went for someone like Sergio,” Horner said to talkSPORT.

Cadillac’s wild card?

Cadillac’s entry into Formula 1 offers a tantalizing opportunity for Perez to reinvigorate his career. With its debut slated for 2026, the American manufacturer will likely seek seasoned talent to guide its team through the sport’s complexities. Perez, with his decade-long experience and proven racecraft, could be an ideal candidate to spearhead their campaign.

Perez takes his time

Despite the growing speculation, Perez himself is in no rush to decide. Speaking to ESPN Deportes, the 33-year-old emphasized his desire to prioritize family and personal enjoyment before charting his next professional move.

“My priority is to enjoy myself, to do things I haven’t done, to be with my family. In the next six months, I will make a decision on what I want for the next step in my career,” Perez revealed.

A second act in the making?

Sergio Perez’s exit from Red Bull might feel like the closing of a chapter, but all signs point to a dramatic resurgence. Whether it’s with Cadillac or another team, the promise of a historic comeback has fans and pundits eagerly awaiting the next move from the driver affectionately known as “Checo.”
