Ryan Blaney is feeling discouraged after losing the Gateway Cup race. The defending NASCAR Cup Series champion for Team Penske Racing is going through a rough patch in his career. He had a strong start to the season and was the most consistent Ford driver, but things took a turn for the worse after the first ten races. He has been on a downward spiral since then, with two consecutive did not finish (DNF) results.
His troubles continued this week at Gateway. He was about to redeem himself by winning the race on Sunday, but just before crossing the finish line, his car started to slow down. This allowed his teammate Austin Cindric to pass him and secure the victory.
Ryan Blaney expressed his disappointment at not knowing he was low on fuel and needed to save. He is understandably upset after another setback this year. As a result of the fuel issue, Blaney finished 24th in the race. He was devastated getting out of the car, knowing he was just one lap away from victory, despite having a great performance throughout the day. Blaney attributed his recent string of bad luck to the accidents he has been involved in.
Despite the defeat, the 2023 Cup champion is not completely disheartened. He acknowledges that if it weren’t for the fuel miscalculation, they would have been the winners. Blaney is determined to figure out what went wrong and bounce back from this setback.
Blaney also found some solace in the fact that his teammate Cindric emerged as the winner. He would have been more disappointed if the victory had gone to another driver. The Team Penske garage is hopeful that they can build on this win and help Blaney and Logano secure much-needed victories.
