NASCAR Rivalry Intensifies: Kyle Larson, Christopher Bell in Race for Glory

NASCAR titan Kyle Busch has long been an inspiration to both rookies and veterans within the racing community, one of whom is Kyle Larson. This admiration is deeply rooted, tracing back to 2017 when Larson, still establishing himself within the NASCAR landscape, referred to Busch as one of the sport’s greatest drivers, his talent surpassing that of any other he would likely witness in his lifetime.

Busch’s extraordinary racing career is a testament to his dominance. A record holder for the most combined victories across all three national series, his envious tally includes 63 Cup wins, 102 Xfinity victories, and 66 Truck Series triumphs. Despite recent performance dips, Busch remains an intimidating presence on the track.

However, Larson is no underdog. The 2021 NASCAR Cup series champion has crafted an impressive legacy of his own in recent years. Despite a disappointing title loss in 2024, even after six record-breaking race victories, Larson continues to set his sights high. As the 2025 NASCAR season progresses, he aims to join the exclusive ranks of drivers with extraordinary achievements.

In 2017, Larson had marveled at Busch’s second career triple-header sweep at Bristol, a feat so remarkable it had never been accomplished even once by another driver. Inspired by this achievement, Larson is determined to replicate this feat. As NASCAR prepares for the next series of races at Homestead-Miami, Larson is gearing up to win all three national series races in a single weekend.

This bold ambition follows Rick Hendrick’s decision to allow his drivers to participate in other series, in line with NASCAR’s policy of permitting Cup drivers five starts in lower series. Larson’s challenge begins with the Truck Series race, where he has already secured a third-place qualifying spot with his No. 07 Spire Motorsports truck.

The following day sees Larson in a Hendrick Motorsports car for the Xfinity race, before he returns to his No. 5 Chevrolet for the Cup Series event. The challenge is daunting, but Larson’s skill and determination make it achievable. Homestead-Miami Speedway, one of Larson’s most successful tracks, is the setting for this historic attempt. Despite only one Cup win and one Xfinity victory, Larson has led a record 626 laps there in the Cup Series.

Last year, Larson narrowly missed victory when a spin while overtaking Ryan Blaney cost him the race. These losses weigh heavily on Larson, fueling his determination to change his narrative by sweeping all three races. If successful, he will join the ranks of Kyle Busch, the only driver to achieve this feat twice.

Yet Larson’s ambitions don’t stop there. After a thwarted “Double” attempt in 2024, he has his sights set on another attempt later this year. A successful sweep in Miami would only stoke the fires of his ambition. Weather delays at Indianapolis last year derailed his plans, preventing him from making it to Charlotte for the Coca-Cola 600 on time.

Kyle Busch, ever candid in assessing talent, named Kyle Larson and William Byron as the best drivers in NASCAR today. In a conversation with FOX Sports analyst Kevin Harvick, Busch praised Larson’s prowess and acknowledged their off-track camaraderie.

Larson’s talent is undeniable. Now, with the backing of Rick Hendrick, he’s ready to etch his name into NASCAR’s history books, aiming to replicate one of Kyle Busch’s most impressive feats. The road ahead may be challenging, but Larson has shown time and again that he’s no stranger to overcoming obstacles.
