Brad Keselowski Fires Back at Chase Elliott Over NASCAR Throwback Weekend Criticism

In a fiery exchange of opinions, NASCAR stars Brad Keselowski and Chase Elliott clashed over the relevance of the beloved Throwback weekend at Darlington Raceway. The atmosphere in the NASCAR Cup garage was buzzing with excitement as special paint schemes paying homage to the sport’s legends adorned the cars for the 2025 regular season race. However, not all drivers were on board with the festivities.

Hendrick Motorsports’ Chase Elliott, the 2020 Cup champion, raised eyebrows by questioning the continued significance of the Throwback weekend tradition. He suggested that the concept had grown stale, stating, “I feel like it got old 4-5 years ago… I think we’ve rode the horse to death.”

In a swift and sharp response, 2012 Cup Series champion Brad Keselowski, who co-owns RFK Racing, defended the tradition, emphasizing its importance in connecting fans to the sport’s rich history. Keselowski expressed his disappointment with Elliott’s comments, highlighting the enthusiasm of fans as they engaged with throwback merchandise haulers at the event.

Moreover, Keselowski empathized with drivers struggling to create standout throwback schemes but urged them not to overlook the fans’ genuine appreciation for the event. While Elliott’s teammate William Byron echoed his sentiments about the concept becoming somewhat repetitive after a decade, veteran driver Kyle Busch and Keselowski stressed the significance of the weekend for fans, urging a reevaluation of the criticisms.

As the debate rages on within the NASCAR community, it remains to be seen whether the veterans’ reverence for tradition or the younger drivers’ calls for innovation will prevail. Stay tuned for more updates and exclusive insights delivered straight to your inbox.
