Chase Elliott, still chasing his first win since the Autotrader EchoPark Automotive 400 at Texas Motor Speedway over 20 race weeks ago, remains unbothered by his extended dry spell. The Hendrick Motorsports star, who entered the 2024 season seeking redemption after a winless 2023 that cost him a playoff spot, says he’s more focused on the competitive landscape of the Next-Gen era rather than dwelling on his personal drought.
Elliott, who triumphed at Texas early this season to mark a comeback, has had a string of close calls since but hasn’t been able to seal another victory. As his teammate continues to rack up wins, Elliott finds himself on the playoff elimination bubble with the Round of 12 looming. Despite the mounting pressure, he insists the lack of victories doesn’t bother him.
“It’s Not Frustrating,” Elliott Insists
Speaking about the challenge of securing wins in the current era of NASCAR’s Next-Gen cars, Elliott noted the fierce competition across the board. He pointed out that the number of different winners has increased, making every race more unpredictable and competitive—something he appreciates as a driver.
“I don’t necessarily find it frustrating… It does seem like we have a more consistent widespread number of winners yearly since we’ve had this car. So, that’s been interesting to watch.”
Elliott’s comments highlight his understanding of the shifting dynamics in NASCAR, as the Next-Gen car has leveled the playing field, making it harder for any one driver to dominate the season. Despite the dry spell, he remains upbeat, focusing on the bigger picture rather than personal accolades.
Approaching Roval With a Fresh Perspective
With the elimination race at the Charlotte Roval coming up, Elliott knows the stakes are high. As he fights to advance in the playoffs, he has emphasized the importance of preparation and adaptability, treating the upcoming race as if it’s an entirely new track.
“Yeah, to me, I kind of look at it like it’s a new race track, truthfully. That section of the track is going to change the entire flow of the lap there, so I’ve been kind of approaching it as a new track with my preparation. I’ve spent some time in the simulator, just trying to really memorize the track and where the little bumps are.”
Elliott’s methodical approach reveals a strategy focused on maximizing every opportunity for points. The simulator sessions are aimed at helping him adapt quickly and anticipate the nuances of the Roval course, which has been modified this season.
A Tough Task Ahead
Road courses haven’t been Elliott’s strong suit in the Next-Gen era, posing an additional challenge as he heads into Sunday’s race. Known for his past prowess on these tracks, Elliott is now faced with the need to overcome recent struggles and put in the extra effort to ensure his playoff survival.
With everything on the line, Chase Elliott is gearing up for a critical weekend, looking to turn his fortunes around and stay in the hunt for the championship. Will the preparation pay off, or will Elliott’s winless streak continue to haunt his season? Only Sunday’s showdown at the Roval will tell.
