NASCAR Cup Series driver Chase Elliott drives during practice for the Cracker Barrel 400 at Nashville Superspeedway in Lebanon, Tenn., Saturday, May 31, 2025.

Chase Elliott Left Fuming Over Chaotic Restarts in Mexico City Race, Blames Loss on Shane van Gisbergen

In a heart-stopping race in Mexico City, Chase Elliott from Hendrick Motorsports found himself grappling with the aftermath of what he described as “crazy restarts.” Despite being recognized as one of the premier road course racers in the field, Elliott’s skills were put to the test as he faced off against the formidable Shane van Gisbergen.

The tension was palpable as the racers battled it out on the challenging circuit, with Elliott struggling to maintain his lead in the face of relentless competition. Frustration mounted as the race unfolded, culminating in a bitter defeat for Elliott at the hands of van Gisbergen.

In a post-race interview, Elliott did not hold back, expressing his exasperation at the chaotic restarts that he believed played a significant role in the outcome of the race. The intensity of the competition, coupled with the high stakes involved, added an extra layer of drama to an already thrilling event.

Despite his disappointment, Elliott’s determination to bounce back from this setback was evident, hinting at a fierce comeback in future races. As the dust settles on the Mexico City race, all eyes will be on Elliott as he looks to reclaim his dominance on the road courses and secure his position as one of the top contenders in the racing world.
