Fox Sports has been facing criticism recently for its coverage of NASCAR races. Over the past two years, fans of the sport have been dissatisfied with the decline in the quality of race coverage provided by Fox Sports. Throughout the 2023 season, Fox received significant criticism for its poor direction of race coverage and excessive commercial breaks during races.
Despite the addition of a retired NASCAR driver to its broadcast team in 2024, the coverage of the Daytona 500 weekend received substantial criticism. Several race-changing moments were missed, and the issue of excessive commercial breaks persisted. Now, Fox Sports finds itself in another controversy, this time with NASCAR’s largest fan base, the fans.
A recent exclusive interview with the 2022 Cup champion was conducted by Fox Sports and aired on FS1. However, an editing error in the interview caught the attention of an Elliott fan and caused a stir on social media. During a discussion about his victories, a compilation of videos of the No. 9 Chevy driver’s win in Dover was shown.
The video included four different clips. The first clip showed the No. 9 car driving on the track, followed by the No. 9 team celebrating the victory, Elliott celebrating inside the car, and the driver waving the checkered flag at the end. However, the internal car footage that was shown was actually of Ty Dillon celebrating a stage win. This was noticeable because Dillon’s racing suit had a different sponsor than Elliott’s NAPA.
Elliott’s fans were displeased with the error and quickly expressed their dissatisfaction with the announcer. They took the opportunity to criticize the average performance of Fox’s broadcast director in recent seasons. Some fans used harsh words in their criticisms, while others were not surprised by the error as it was not new to them. Ultimately, it may have been a genuine editing mistake, but considering Fox’s negative reputation within the NASCAR community, more efforts could have been made to address this issue.
I am speechless at this moment. I am no longer surprised. The NASCARONFOX team is terrible and embarrasses the sport.
This is why editing deserves an Oscar. 😅
Mediocre quality from Fox
This is a clear indication of how poorly FOX handles production 😂
Is this because Ty Dillon is Jeff Gordon’s successor?
GOAT Dillon > Chase Elliott
