Chase Elliott, the 2020 NASCAR Cup Series champion, is feeling optimistic about his chances of making it into the 2024 Championship 4 after a season of consistent performances. After a disappointing 2023 season marred by an ice-skating injury, Elliott has come back stronger, starting the 2024 season with solid top-10 finishes and securing a critical win at Texas Motor Speedway.
Though Elliott has not visited victory lane since his Texas triumph, his consistency has carried him through the playoffs, with four top-10 finishes in the first six playoff races. The driver of the No. 9 Hendrick Motorsports Chevy remains firmly in contention as he heads into the Round of 8, and he’s determined to keep the momentum going as the season reaches its climax.
Discussing his chances of making it to the Championship 4, Elliott pointed out three key factors that make his team a formidable contender. He emphasized the experience and depth of his team, which he believes gives them an edge over their rivals as they approach the season’s penultimate round.
“I think our team is just extremely well-rounded and we have a lot of depth, too,” Elliott explained. “I feel also with a lot of experience. I think those are all extremely important things as it pertains to making it through the rounds.”
The confidence isn’t limited to just Elliott. William Byron, his teammate at Hendrick Motorsports, echoed similar sentiments about the strength of the team. Byron highlighted that their experience, speed, and talent could be the key ingredients that help the No. 9 team make it through the ultra-competitive Round of 8.
“We’re going to make the Championship 4 because we’re experienced, have speed, and have a really talented team,” Byron asserted.
As Hendrick Motorsports approaches the crucial playoff rounds, the entire squad appears to be riding high on confidence. With their consistent pace and strong performances throughout the season, the battle for the Championship 4 spot is heating up. All eyes will be on Elliott and his teammates to see who can advance and compete for the coveted NASCAR Cup Series title.
The next few races will decide whether Elliott’s redemption arc will continue to a Championship 4 berth—or if the fierce competition will stop him just short of another shot at glory.
