Chase Briscoe Seizes Brickyard 400 Pole as Denny Hamlin Crashes in Spectacular Fashion

NASCAR Cup Series driver Chase Briscoe (19) is greeted by his crew Saturday, July 26, 2025, during qualifying for the Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Chase Briscoe stunned the racing world by clinching the pole position for the prestigious Brickyard 400, leaving fans and competitors in awe at his remarkable feat. The Indiana native showcased his exceptional talent by securing his fifth pole position of the 2025 season, outshining top contenders like Bubba Wallace and Erik Jones.

Briscoe’s dominance in qualifying was evident as he narrowly edged out Wallace, who is on the playoff bubble, by a mere 0.013 seconds. This season has been a showcase of Briscoe’s speed and skill, with pole positions in marquee events like the Daytona 500, the Coca Cola 600, and now the illustrious Brickyard 400.

The intense qualifying session saw Tyler Reddick claim the fourth spot, while Ty Gibbs, a finalist in the $1 million in-season challenge, secured fifth place on the grid. William Byron led the Chevrolet pack in sixth position, with Chris Buescher flying the flag for Ford in seventh. Carson Hocevar, A.J. Allmendinger, and Austin Cindric rounded out the top ten, setting the stage for an electrifying race day.

Amidst the high stakes and adrenaline-fueled competition, rookie Shane van Gisbergen delivered an impressive performance, securing the eleventh spot in his best qualifying effort on a Cup Series oval. The young driver’s ascent in the ranks promises an exciting showdown on race day.

In a heart-pounding turn of events, Denny Hamlin, vying for pole position after a recent contract extension with Joe Gibbs Racing, suffered a catastrophic crash that shattered his hopes of starting at the front. Hamlin’s No. 11 Toyota was on pace for pole position before a harrowing wreck sent shockwaves through the racing community. Despite his valiant efforts, Hamlin will have to claw his way up from the 39th position on race day.

As the dust settles from the dramatic qualifying session, all eyes are on Briscoe as he leads the field to the green flag at the iconic Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The stage is set for a thrilling Brickyard 400 showdown, with drivers poised to push the limits in pursuit of victory. Stay tuned as the drama unfolds on race day, promising edge-of-your-seat action and unexpected twists in this high-stakes battle for supremacy on the track.
