Charles Leclerc talks about his recent agreement with Ferrari.

According to reports from Italian media outlets, Charles Leclerc’s recent agreement with Ferrari will extend until the conclusion of 2029. Leclerc has provided his reasons for committing to the team for an extended period following his contract extension. Ferrari has been a prominent subject in this year’s early transfer speculation, with the Italian team already securing their lineup until at least 2025 and 2026. In January, it was revealed that Charles Leclerc had signed a contract extension for multiple years, although the exact duration of the deal has not been disclosed by Ferrari. As per the reports from Italian media, Leclerc’s new contract will run until the end of 2029.

However, there was a surprising announcement at the beginning of February when Lewis Hamilton was confirmed to replace Carlos Sainz next year. The seven-time World Champion will leave Mercedes at the end of the 2024 season and make an extraordinary move to Maranello. The pairing of Hamilton and Leclerc is an exceptional combination of drivers and showcases the team’s ambitions to put an end to their championship drought. Ferrari’s last victory in the Constructors’ Championship dates back to 2008, while the most recent triumph for a Ferrari driver was Kimi Raikkonen’s 2007 title.

Leclerc’s goal is to bring an end to Ferrari’s pursuit of a championship, which partly explains his decision to agree to such a long-term extension. The 26-year-old has had a close relationship with Ferrari for several years, having joined their driver academy in 2016. The strong bond between Ferrari and Leclerc is evident, with the reported duration of his contract serving as evidence. However, Leclerc’s journey with Ferrari over the past six years has not been without challenges, particularly in the last two seasons. Despite expressing his discontent with strategic decisions at times, his loyalty to the team remains unwavering.

Leclerc not only believes in Ferrari’s vision but also in their pursuit of building the fastest car. “Well, of course, it’s a factor in my decision,” Leclerc expressed to select media outlets. “I fully believe in the project. I have a deep love for Ferrari, and I think that’s evident to everyone. But most importantly, I have faith in the project and believe that we have the best opportunity to become the leading car on the grid in the upcoming years. That’s why I chose to renew with Ferrari.”
