Charles Leclerc’s Disappointment in Canadian GP Qualifying
In a shocking turn of events at the Canadian Grand Prix, Charles Leclerc expressed deep disappointment after securing only the eighth spot in the qualifying session. The Ferrari Formula 1 driver was confident in his ability to fight for pole position but was left frustrated after a challenging final lap in Q3. Leclerc’s hopes were dashed when he encountered trouble at Turn 7, attributing it to the dirty air from Isack Hadjar’s Racing Bulls machinery ahead of him.
Despite facing a setback during FP1 with a crash at Turn 3, which forced him to sit out FP2 for survival cell replacement, Leclerc maintained that the incident had little impact on his overall performance for the weekend. He pointed out that he felt comfortable from the beginning of FP3 and had no regrets regarding the setup of his car since FP1. Leclerc expressed his disappointment, stating, “I’m just very, very disappointed with Q3 because I think that the beginning of the lap was worth, or at least good enough, to be fighting for pole position and we are now starting P8, so very disappointed with that.”
During his post-session media briefing, Leclerc briefly stepped out to have a word with Hadjar in the paddock, emphasizing that he could not blame the French driver for the outcome of his qualifying lap. He acknowledged the challenges of dealing with dirty air on tracks like Montreal, similar to Monaco, which can significantly impact a driver’s performance.
Despite the setback in qualifying, Leclerc remained optimistic about his chances in the upcoming race and believed he could still aim for a podium finish. He highlighted the importance of making early progress in the race to secure a strong result, stating, “I want to target the podium, but it all depends on how quickly we are going to get past the others.”
As the anticipation builds for the race day in Montreal, all eyes will be on Charles Leclerc as he looks to turn his qualifying disappointment into a triumphant performance on the track.
