Charles Leclerc has lauded Ferrari Team Principal Fred Vasseur for his ability to stay “emotionally flat” during the highs and lows of a Formula 1 season, attributing much of the team’s recent resurgence to this exceptional quality.

After a strong 2024 campaign that saw Ferrari nearly clinch the Constructors’ Championship against McLaren, Leclerc emphasized how Vasseur’s steady leadership has transformed Ferrari into a more focused and resilient team, capable of competing at the sharp end of the grid.

Steady Hands Amid Ferrari’s Emotional Storm

Ferrari has long been a team known for its passionate highs and turbulent lows. According to Leclerc, Vasseur’s ability to maintain a calm and consistent demeanor has brought much-needed stability to the Italian outfit.

“Fred is very emotionally flat, and that helps a team like Ferrari so much because the team is all the opposite,” Leclerc explained. “Emotions run very high both ways, whether they are good or bad.”

Leclerc described Vasseur’s ability to pivot quickly from the emotions of a race weekend to constructive analysis as a game-changer. “Twenty minutes after a race, we all sit down together, and he’s already on a very good analysis, putting emotions aside. That’s a huge quality to run Ferrari.”

A Transformative Leadership

Since taking the helm in 2023, Vasseur has spearheaded a performance renaissance for Ferrari. In 2024, the team made noticeable progress, minimizing operational errors and making critical strides in race pace and strategy. Leclerc, who narrowly missed out on finishing second in the Drivers’ Championship, believes Vasseur’s leadership has been pivotal.

Leclerc also pointed out Vasseur’s consistency in personality and approach, highlighting how this predictability has fostered a stronger working relationship:
“Whenever I go and see Fred, I know what to expect. It’s not like there’s any kind of difference in humor or whatever. He’s always had that consistency.”

2025: The Final Ground-Effect Battle

Ferrari enters the 2025 season with a formidable pairing: Charles Leclerc and seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton. This high-caliber lineup positions Ferrari as one of the strongest contenders in what promises to be a fiercely competitive final year of the ground-effect regulation era.

The stakes are high, with McLaren, Red Bull, and Mercedes all expected to be in the championship hunt. Leclerc is optimistic about Ferrari’s chances, citing Vasseur’s leadership and the team’s momentum from 2024 as key factors.

Vasseur’s Legacy at Ferrari

Fred Vasseur’s tenure at Ferrari is shaping up to be one of transformation and resilience. His ability to navigate the intense pressure of leading Formula 1’s most iconic team while fostering a culture of consistent performance could be the key to ending Ferrari’s championship drought.

As the 2025 season approaches, Ferrari fans will undoubtedly hope that Vasseur’s calm demeanor and sharp analytical mind can steer the team to championship glory. For Leclerc, it’s clear that he has immense faith in his team principal: “Fred always had it in himself to lead a team like Maranello.”
