Leclerc: Mercedes Formula 1 speed disappoints Ferrari in Belgian Grand Prix

Charles Leclerc has been a Ferrari driver since the 2019 season, and over the years, he has established himself as one of the most talented racers on the current Formula 1 grid. With six Grand Prix wins under his belt, Leclerc is highly regarded by Ferrari, which is why the team offered him a new multi-year contract ahead of the 2024 season.

Leclerc’s commitment to Ferrari signals his belief in the team’s potential, even though the current season has been challenging. Despite the setbacks, the Monegasque driver is confident that he can achieve his ultimate dream—winning a world championship with the iconic Italian team.

In a recent podcast, Leclerc discussed his aspirations and his unwavering faith in Ferrari. When asked if he still believes he can become world champion with Ferrari, Leclerc responded, “Yes, for sure. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have signed again. Even if you don’t have a title chance, to drive for Ferrari is an incredible honor.”

Leclerc’s words reflect his deep commitment to Ferrari and his belief in the team’s future. He trusts that Ferrari, under the leadership of Fred Vasseur, will develop a competitive car capable of challenging the likes of McLaren and the Max Verstappen-led Red Bull team.

However, while Leclerc remains optimistic about the future, the 2024 season has not gone as planned for Ferrari. Since the Monaco Grand Prix, the team has struggled to keep up with its rivals, and as the season stands, Ferrari is currently the fourth fastest team on the grid in terms of raw pace. Mercedes has managed to surpass them, and McLaren is closing in.

Both Leclerc and his teammate have secured Grand Prix wins for Ferrari this year, but those victories came early in the season. With just 10 races remaining, Ferrari faces a monumental task if it hopes to maintain its current third-place position in the Constructors’ Championship or challenge McLaren and Red Bull for the top spots.

For Leclerc, the dream of becoming a world champion with Ferrari is still alive, but the road ahead is steep. The team will need to deliver significant updates to the SF-24 to close the gap to its competitors and give Leclerc a fighting chance at realizing his dream.
