The world’s largest manufacturer of batteries for electric vehicles, CATL, has officially launched a chassis, the Bedrock, designed for electric vehicles, which the brand describes as “ultra-safe”.
The brand states that this chassis sets new safety standards for smart vehicles and challenges the myth that combustion cars are inherently safer than 100% electric models.
During the presentation event for the new chassis, CATL revealed a prototype that withstood a frontal impact at 120 km/h without exploding or catching fire. The brand also disclosed that the Bedrock Chassis features a battery-centered design, capable of absorbing 85% of the impact energy, compared to 60% of traditional chassis.
The new chassis includes an ultra-safe battery cell that disconnects the high-voltage circuit during a collision and discharges residual energy. CATL emphasized that this technology not only enhances safety but also paves the way for modular, customized, and smart electric vehicle designs.
The Avatar, a joint venture between CATL and Chongqing Changan Automobile, will be the first brand to adopt the Bedrock Chassis.
