CATL lança nova geração de baterias

CATL is starting mass production of the new generation of LFP batteries for electric vehicles. In this fifth generation of lithium iron phosphate chemistry batteries from the Chinese manufacturer, a longer lifespan is anticipated, as well as a higher energy density. With this latest evolution, CATL aims to strengthen its leadership in terms of battery efficiency and longevity.

In addition, the Chinese giant is also working on the development of new battery chemistries and technologies, notably sodium-ion batteries, highlighted by the launch earlier this year of the Naxtra battery. The goal is to reduce dependence on lithium and, consequently, the environmental impact associated with its mining, also emphasizing advantages such as greater reliability in colder climates.

CATL has also confirmed its commitment to the research and development of solid-state batteries, stating that its efforts are among the most advanced globally, thereby asserting its global prominence in battery manufacturing. In this regard, it is worth noting that between January and September, 36.6% of the batteries installed worldwide were manufactured by CATL, meaning more than one-third.

In the domestic market, for example, during the month of October, CATL batteries captured a market share of 43%, totaling 36.14 GWh of installed capacity. According to Robin Zeng, founder and CEO of CATL, his company was responsible for supplying about 120 GWh of lithium batteries out of nearly 200 GWh of total batteries exported by China during the first three quarters of this year.

In addition to batteries for passenger cars, CATL is also focused on the sectors of commercial vehicles and electric boats and aircraft. According to Zeng, the Tectrans battery family is, in fact, one of the most sought-after solutions by manufacturers of heavy vehicles and electric boats.
