CATCH ME IF YOU CAN! The Lucid Air Becomes a Police Car in Saudi Arabia.

The Saudi Arabia Ministry of Interior has revealed a new addition to their police fleet – the Lucid Air. In a video uploaded to Twitter, the ministry showcased the electric sedan, which will be equipped with a unique feature: a drone that can be deployed from a box integrated into the car’s roof. The video demonstrates the drone taking off from the Lucid Air’s roof, highlighting the vehicle’s capabilities.

The Lucid Air police car features the national police livery, with “Police” lettering displayed on both sides alongside Saudi Arabia’s General Directorate of Public Security logo. This official police version of the Lucid Air will be showcased at the ongoing World Defence Show in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia. The car’s hood proudly displays the “Police” lettering and the police number 911.

While details about the specific version of the Lucid Air used by the police are scarce, it is speculated that the range-topping Sapphire model would be suitable for law enforcement purposes. The Sapphire boasts three motors, producing an impressive 1,234 horsepower and 1,430 pound-feet of torque. With this power, the car can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 1.89 seconds and complete the quarter-mile in 8.95 seconds, reaching a top speed of 205 mph.

The decision to include the Lucid Air in the Saudi Arabian police fleet aligns with the country’s investment in the American carmaker. The Public Investment Fund (PIF) of Saudi Arabia holds a majority stake in Lucid, and the company was the first to establish a car factory in the country. The factory, operational since September 2023, currently produces 5,000 units per year. Around 800 locally assembled Air sedans have already been produced, with plans to increase production capacity to 150,000 units annually by the middle of the decade.

As part of a contract with the Saudi Arabian government, Lucid aims to deliver 100,000 electric vehicles over the next ten years. This partnership demonstrates Saudi Arabia’s commitment to advanced technologies and a secure future for the country.
