Carlos Sainz’s Frustration Explodes After Bahrain GP Retirement

The Bahrain Grand Prix turned into a nightmare for Carlos Sainz as he was forced to retire due to severe damage to the sidepod of his Williams FW46. A clash with Red Bull’s Yuki Tsunoda left a significant hole in Sainz’s car, leading to his untimely exit from the race.

Despite pleading for an investigation into Tsunoda’s actions, stewards opted not to take any further action, leaving Sainz disappointed with the turn of events. Reflecting on the challenging race, Sainz expressed his frustration, stating, “I felt like I was always fighting cars that were just those 2, 3 tenths quicker per lap than us, and this makes you want to stay with them, catch their DRS, use a bit more of your tire and start going backwards once you try to do that.”

Sainz continued, “A bit of a frustrating situation to be in with Lewis, Kimi, and I think Yuki at the time, but I gave it a good shot trying to stay up with them.” However, his efforts were in vain as the damage from the collision ultimately led to his retirement.

The Spanish driver was also slapped with a ten-second penalty for an incident involving Mercedes rookie Andrea Kimi Antonelli. Sainz explained that it was a result of the heat of the moment during a post-safety car restart, where he inadvertently forced Antonelli off the track.

Despite the setbacks, Sainz tried to focus on the positives from the weekend, highlighting his good qualifying performance, strong start, and competitive pace. He acknowledged the superior performance of the Alpine cars but remained optimistic about the progress of his team.

Sainz concluded by stating, “The weekends will come a bit more together hopefully, and at the same time, we have this little bit to improve on the car to see if we can catch Gasly and Doohan with the Alpines because this weekend they seem to be on the other league than more than in our league.”

As the dust settles on the Bahrain GP, Carlos Sainz is left to regroup and strategize for future races, aiming to overcome the challenges and secure better results in the upcoming events.
