Carlos Sainz’s F1 Nightmare: Fire, Brakes, and Heartbreak at Austrian Grand Prix

F1 Driver Sainz’s Nightmare at Austrian Grand Prix: From DNS to Flames

Carlos Sainz faced a nightmare at the Austrian Grand Prix, experiencing his third Did Not Start (DNS) in his Formula 1 career. The Williams driver encountered multiple issues throughout the weekend at Red Bull Racing, culminating in a disastrous race day.

Struggling with a brake problem and floor damage during qualifying, Sainz found himself in 19th place on the grid. His misfortunes continued on Sunday as he faced trouble starting the formation lap, with his car seemingly refusing to move forward. Eventually getting going, Sainz had to deal with what felt like engaged brakes throughout the lap.

Things took a dangerous turn when smoke and flames emerged from the rear of his car, prompting the Williams team to extinguish the fire as Sainz’s race came to an abrupt end. Expressing his frustration, Sainz lamented, “I don’t know why this happens to me as a driver so often.”

Despite showing promise as a team, Williams has been plagued by various issues, affecting their performance on track. Sainz acknowledged the need to regroup and improve, especially with the upcoming home Grand Prix at Silverstone on the horizon.

Reflecting on the race day challenges, Sainz revealed the technical issues he faced, including the rear brakes getting stuck and causing the car to catch fire. While the team managed to resolve a brake issue from qualifying, a new problem emerged just before the race, further adding to their woes.

The Austrian Grand Prix proved to be a disappointment for Williams, with Sainz’s teammate Alex Albon also retiring from the race. Despite the setbacks, the team remains in 5th place in the Constructors’ Championship, emphasizing the need for improvement in the races to come.
