Carlos Sainz’s Heart-Wrenching Bahrain GP: From Spectacular Start to Devastating Retirement

Carlos Sainz Reveals Major Obstacles Holding Back Williams Racing’s Performance

Spanish driver Carlos Sainz has shed light on the challenges plaguing the Williams FW47, hindering the team from achieving a significant performance breakthrough. Despite recognizing the untapped potential in the car, Sainz attributes the team’s struggles to persistent balance issues, particularly in medium and low-speed corners.

Since his transition from Ferrari to Williams for the 2025 season, Sainz has been grappling with the distinct characteristics of the Grove-based team’s car. While his teammate Alex Albon has shown superiority thus far, Sainz remains optimistic following a promising performance in Bahrain, which he believes marked a turning point for him.

The primary hurdle for Sainz and the team lies in a recurring handling flaw in the FW47, affecting both drivers and notably prominent in specific corners, impeding their quest for improved performance. Sainz emphasized the team’s dedication to resolving this fundamental balance issue, crucial not only for the current season but also for Williams’ long-term progress under upcoming regulation changes.

The Spanish driver revealed the issue surfaces consistently during laps, particularly disrupting performance in medium to low-speed corners. Despite Albon’s adaptation to the problem, Sainz acknowledges the significant challenge it poses for him as a newcomer to the team.

Team principal James Vowles echoed Sainz’s optimism, setting a clear target for the upcoming Saudi Arabian Grand Prix of securing both cars in Q3. With a highly competitive midfield and the team still striving for consistency, small improvements could potentially lead to significant gains, propelling Williams back to the forefront of the grid sooner than anticipated.

As Sainz and Williams continue to navigate these challenges, the potential for a remarkable turnaround in performance remains within reach, signaling a promising future for the team if they can overcome the obstacles impeding their success.
