In a groundbreaking move ahead of the 2025 F1 season, Ferrari has granted Carlos Sainz an extraordinary opportunity to hit the Yas Marina Circuit in Williams colors before the ink is barely dry on his future plans.
The Spaniard will not only participate in the traditional post-season test on Tuesday but will also enjoy a rare filming day run on Monday, giving him an exclusive 35km of track time in the FW46. This unique allowance, sanctioned by Ferrari Team Principal Frédéric Vasseur, marks a significant step as Sainz transitions into his new role with Williams for the upcoming season.
Ferrari’s Special Arrangement
Still contracted with Ferrari until December 31, Sainz will sport plain, sponsor-free overalls for the sessions, reflecting the delicate balance between honoring existing obligations and preparing for his Williams debut. While it’s a limited introduction, Williams sees immense value in Sainz’s initial feedback.
“This is about setting the stage for Carlos to hit the ground running in 2025,” said Williams Technical Director. “It’s not just about comfort; it’s a first look at what he can bring to the table as we move forward with our ambitious plans.”
Luke Browning Joins the Action
Adding to the excitement, Williams Academy star Luke Browning will also make his FW46 debut during the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix weekend, contesting FP1 before participating in the Young Driver Test. The rising British talent, who finished third in Formula 3 this season, is eager to prove his mettle on the grandest stage.
“It’s a surreal moment to step into an F1 car,” said Browning. “I’m incredibly thankful to Williams for this opportunity and plan to maximize every lap.”
Williams Eyes the Future
Sainz’s two-day stint isn’t just about seat fittings or tire tests—it’s a prelude to a bold new era for Williams. While the team is focused on gleaning feedback from the experienced Spaniard, the post-season test will also feature evaluations of Pirelli’s 2025 tire compounds.
With Sainz’s Ferrari pedigree and Browning’s youthful promise, Williams is aligning itself for a dynamic 2025 season. The Abu Dhabi test represents not just the close of one chapter, but the thrilling beginning of another for the Grove-based squad.
