Carlos Sainz, set to join Williams Racing in 2025, has been granted permission by Ferrari to participate in the post-season test in Abu Dhabi next month. This marks the beginning of a new chapter for the Spaniard, who will partner Alex Albon at Williams following Ferrari’s high-profile signing of Lewis Hamilton from Mercedes.

Sainz, still under contract with Ferrari until the end of 2024, will get behind the wheel of Williams’ FW46 during the one-day test, a rare move that allows him to begin acclimating to his new team before officially joining.

“Williams Welcomes Sainz Ahead of 2025 Season”

Williams Racing emphasized the importance of this early integration:

“This early opportunity will allow both Carlos and Williams to begin building their relationship,” the team said in a statement. “The test session will provide a valuable chance for Carlos to begin integrating into his new team environment, and he will drive the FW46 for the first time.”

The Abu Dhabi test will provide Sainz with crucial data and experience as he transitions to a team that has made strides toward reclaiming its former glory. With Sainz’s proven ability and Williams’ ambitious plans, the pairing represents a significant step for both parties.

“A Grid in Flux: Big Moves and Rookie Debuts”

Sainz is one of four experienced drivers switching teams for the 2025 season, alongside Esteban Ocon, who will join Haas, and Nico Hulkenberg, moving to Stake Sauber. These changes come as Lewis Hamilton’s move to Ferrari reshuffles the driver lineup across the grid.

Additionally, four rookies are set to make their full-time Formula 1 debuts next season:

  • Andrea Kimi Antonelli
  • Oliver Bearman
  • Jack Doohan
  • Gabriel Bortoleto

All four are expected to participate in the Abu Dhabi test under the rule allowing teams to run drivers with two or fewer Grand Prix starts. Teams will also use the test for Pirelli tire development, running one car specifically for tire testing purposes.

“Williams Dismisses Concerns Ahead of Las Vegas GP”

While Williams is preparing for the Abu Dhabi test, the team also addressed concerns regarding its readiness for the upcoming Las Vegas Grand Prix. A spokesperson reassured fans and stakeholders, stating the team is fully prepared to field two cars in the highly anticipated race.

“Looking Ahead to 2025”

Carlos Sainz’s move to Williams signifies a fresh start for the Spaniard, who aims to leverage his experience to help Williams climb back up the grid. His early testing opportunity reflects the team’s commitment to ensuring a seamless transition and its determination to capitalize on its upward trajectory.

As the 2024 season concludes, the Abu Dhabi test will set the stage for what promises to be an exciting and competitive 2025 campaign, with seasoned drivers and rising stars shaping the future of Formula 1.
