In a shocking turn of events, James Vowles, the team director of Williams, has thrown his support behind Carlos Sainz Sr., endorsing his potential candidacy for the FIA presidency. The two-time rally world champion is being touted as a formidable contender for the position, with Vowles lauding his extensive experience in motorsports and leadership qualities.

Despite concerns raised by critics regarding a possible conflict of interest due to Sainz Sr.’s son being an F1 driver, Vowles dismissed these worries. He praised Sainz Sr.’s hands-off approach to his son’s career and emphasized that any issues could be addressed. Vowles commended Sainz Sr.’s logical mindset and leadership background, highlighting his previous roles in Spanish motorsport institutions.

Vowles expressed confidence in Sainz Sr.’s ability to navigate any complexities that may arise, stating, “I believe that he would be a good option simply because he has a couple of world championships, a wide range of motorsports, understanding everything from single-seaters to rallies.” He further added, “This is probably not as big a step as some may think, but it is up to him to decide if this is the direction he truly wants to take.”
