Carlos Sainz Sr, the legendary World Rally champion and Dakar winner, is contemplating a daring move to challenge Mohammed Ben Sulayem for the presidency of the FIA. Reports from sources close to Sainz reveal that influential figures within the motorsport community have encouraged him to rival Ben Sulayem, the incumbent FIA president.

The potential candidacy of Sainz, a prominent figure in motorsport and the father of Williams F1 driver Carlos Sainz Jr., has sent shockwaves through the racing world. Speculations suggest that Sainz aims to introduce a “positive and constructive program” to provide FIA delegates with an alternative choice in the upcoming presidential election, casting a shadow over Ben Sulayem’s controversial tenure.

Ben Sulayem, who assumed office in 2021, succeeding Jean Todt, has faced a series of scandals during his presidency. From the departure of senior executives to governance issues and disputes with FIA members and drivers, his leadership has been turbulent.

The upcoming election, scheduled for later this year, is already shrouded in anticipation as Sainz contemplates a run for the presidency, potentially challenging the status quo within the FIA. The motorsport community eagerly awaits further developments as Sainz weighs his decision to enter the race for FIA’s top position.

As the racing world braces for a potential showdown between Sainz and Ben Sulayem, the FIA’s future hangs in the balance. Stay tuned for more updates on this unfolding saga as Sainz Sr. gears up for a possible bid for the FIA presidency.
