Despite citing stomach problems as his excuse, Sainz was penalized for arriving late, with half of the fine being suspended on the condition that he doesn’t repeat the offense within the next 12 months. Officials noted Sainz’s late arrival during the anthem and, while acknowledging his health issue, emphasized the importance of respecting the national anthem by imposing a similar penalty to a previous case in Canada in 2024.
