Carlos Sainz’s chapter with Ferrari may be closing, but the Spaniard isn’t ruling out a return to the Scuderia in the future. With his departure from Ferrari confirmed following the team’s high-profile decision to sign Lewis Hamilton alongside Charles Leclerc for 2025, Sainz remains open to a reunion. In a recent interview, he expressed that while he’s fully committed to his upcoming role with Williams, Ferrari could still be in his future: “My door will always be open to Ferrari.”

Sainz, who delivered Ferrari’s only non-Red Bull victory last season, was initially in contract talks with the team before news broke that Hamilton would replace him. At 30, Sainz remains a potential contender for Ferrari down the line, especially with Hamilton turning 40 before his Ferrari journey even begins.

Ferrari team boss Frederic Vasseur echoed Sainz’s sentiments, admitting he would welcome working with the talented driver again. “Honestly, I have huge respect for Carlos and what he did for Ferrari,” Vasseur said. “He was able to stay professional in tough conditions and was part of the team’s recovery last year when we faced challenges. I’ll keep a very good relationship with him.”

Despite knowing this season would be his last with Ferrari, Sainz stayed focused, recording two wins in 2024 and giving his all to the team. Reflecting on the difficulty of completing the season while knowing his time with Ferrari was ending, Sainz said, “Doing 24 races knowing you’re leaving is tough, especially since I’m a guy who likes to focus on medium- to long-term projects. It’s challenging, but I was always going to give my best.”

Now focused on his upcoming role with Williams, Sainz remains committed to making a mark there. But as he leaves Ferrari with high regard and mutual respect, he leaves the door ajar for a potential return to the red team in the future.
