Formula 1 Star Carlos Sainz Jr Defends Father’s Potential FIA Presidency Bid

In a bold move, Williams driver Carlos Sainz Jr has shut down any concerns regarding a possible conflict of interest if his father, Carlos Sainz Sr, were to run for FIA president. The former World Rally champion is contemplating a candidacy for the upcoming election, competing against the incumbent Mohammed Ben Sulayem.

Critics raised the issue that having Sainz Sr as the FIA president while his son actively participates in Formula 1 could lead to a conflict of interest. However, Sainz Jr quickly dismissed these claims, stating, “Whoever knows my dad or knows me personally, knows we would never do anything that would mean a conflict of interest.”

The talented driver emphasized that his father had been urged by numerous individuals within the paddock to pursue the role. Sainz Jr revealed, “A lot of people in the paddock suggested he should do it,” shedding light on the widespread support for his father’s potential candidacy.

While acknowledging the possibility of his father running for the position, Sainz Jr highlighted his father’s extensive experience in motorsport, making him a fitting candidate for the role. He expressed his confidence in his father’s qualifications, stating, “I think he fits very well the profile.”

As the FIA election draws near, the motorsport community eagerly anticipates Sainz Sr’s final decision on whether to officially enter the race. With his wealth of knowledge spanning various racing disciplines, including rallying, go-karting, and Formula 1, Sainz Sr’s candidacy could bring a unique perspective to the governing body.

The Emilia Romagna Grand Prix serves as the backdrop for these discussions, adding an extra layer of intrigue to the upcoming race weekend. Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story as the FIA election approaches.
