Carlos Sainz Jr. Regrets His Father’s Withdrawal from FIA Presidency Race

In a shocking turn of events, Carlos Sainz Sr., the legendary rally driver with two WRC titles and four Dakar wins, has announced his decision to withdraw from the race for the FIA presidency. The motorsport world was taken aback by this unexpected move, as Sainz Sr. was seen as a strong contender against the current leader, Mohammed Ben Sulayem. Despite initially considering a bid for the presidency, Sainz Sr. cited unfavorable circumstances as the reason for his withdrawal, stating that “the current situation is not ideal for laying the foundations of my candidacy.”

Today, at the media briefing in Austria, Carlos Sainz Jr., currently racing for Williams, shared his thoughts on his father’s decision. While understanding his father’s choice, Sainz Jr. expressed disappointment as a motorsport enthusiast for not being able to witness such a prominent figure take on the highest position in the world of motorsport. “I am not disappointed as a son, but as a fan of motorsport,” Sainz Jr. stated, hinting at the missed opportunity for his father.

Moreover, Sainz Jr. didn’t shy away from criticizing the current FIA administration, pointing out the lack of transparency that many drivers are noticing and emphasizing the need for change within the organization. “There are things that need to change,” he remarked, shedding light on the dissatisfaction among drivers towards the Federation’s operations.

The motorsport community is left in anticipation of what the future holds for the FIA presidency race, with Sainz Jr.’s remarks adding fuel to the already heated discussions surrounding the upcoming elections. Stay tuned for more updates as the story unfolds.
