Carl Edwards’ NASCAR Comeback? Hall of Fame Induction Sparks TV Rumors Amidst $7.7 Billion Media Deal

Carl Edwards never thought this day would come. After walking away from NASCAR in 2016, the former Cup Series star never expected the Hall of Fame recognition he received. But now, **not only has Edwards been permanently etched into NASCAR history, but a new opportunity may be on the horizon—**a return to the sport, but this time, in the broadcast booth.

From Sudden Exit to Hall of Fame Immortalization

Edwards’ 12-year career was nothing short of legendary, amassing 28 Cup Series wins and going toe-to-toe with NASCAR’s greatest. But his career was also haunted by heartbreak, with near-misses in championship battles—the most painful being his devastating loss in 2016, which led to his abrupt retirement.

For years, Edwards disappeared from the NASCAR world, leaving fans wondering if he would ever return. But after being named one of NASCAR’s 75 Greatest Drivers in 2023, he resurfaced at Darlington Raceway, stepping into the FOX Sports booth and delivering an electrifying broadcasting debut alongside Mike Joy and Clint Bowyer.

It turns out, Edwards might have found his next calling.

Will Carl Edwards Join Dale Earnhardt Jr. in Amazon’s NASCAR Booth?

In December 2023, NASCAR secured a massive $7.7 billion media rights deal, bringing Amazon, TNT, and Warner Bros. into the mix to shake up NASCAR’s broadcasting landscape.

As part of this new wave, Dale Earnhardt Jr. was tapped to cover five races for Amazon and TNT Sports. But will Carl Edwards be joining him?

According to journalist Jenna Fryer, the rumor mill is already spinning. In a recent post, she revealed that Edwards is “interested in TV work” and noted a convenient coincidence—Amazon hasn’t fully announced its booth lineup yet.

Her exact words?

🗣️ “In this story I wrote yesterday, Carl Edwards told me he plans to be at the track some in 2025 and is interested in TV work. Coincidentally … Amazon has not announced its full booth yet.”

Amazon’s Broadcast Team: Could Edwards Be the Missing Piece?

So far, Amazon’s 2025 broadcast booth consists of:

✔️ Dale Earnhardt Jr. (NASCAR icon & veteran broadcaster)
✔️ Steve Letarte (Former Hendrick Motorsports crew chief & top-tier analyst)
✔️ Adam Alexander (Respected play-by-play announcer)

While Amazon has finalized its main crew, there’s no rule against adding a fourth member, and bringing in a NASCAR legend like Edwards could take the booth to the next level.

Carl Edwards on Broadcasting: “It Was More Fun Than I Expected”

If you ask Carl Edwards himself, he’s open to the idea of calling races on a regular basis.

Reflecting on his broadcasting debut at Darlington, Edwards admitted that stepping into the booth was “more fun than I thought it would be”.

🗣️ “I had more fun than I thought I would have last year at Darlington up in the booth with Clint and Mike. It really was enjoyable… I left thinking, man, that’s fun.”

He went on to say:

🗣️ “If I were to come back in a regular capacity, what I enjoyed was being up in the booth. I enjoyed calling the race. So maybe something like that. But I don’t have anything lined up right now, but I’m definitely much more open to it than I ever have been.”

Edwards’ Return to NASCAR: A Full Circle Moment?

Carl Edwards has spent years avoiding the spotlight, staying away from NASCAR for legitimate personal reasons. But with his recent Hall of Fame induction and newfound enthusiasm for the sport, the tide may be turning.

Whether or not Amazon decides to add him to the booth, one thing is clear—Carl Edwards is back in NASCAR’s orbit, and fans are ready to welcome him with open arms.
