Cadillac’s F1 Dream Takes Flight: Sergio Perez Thrills in Ferrari SF-23 at Imola!

Title: Sergio Perez Takes the Wheel: Cadillac’s Groundbreaking Test of Ferrari F1 Car at Imola!

In a thrilling development that is sending shockwaves through the motorsport world, Cadillac has taken a monumental leap towards its debut on the Formula 1 grid in 2026. The iconic American brand has officially stepped out of the virtual realm and onto the asphalt, with none other than Sergio Perez behind the wheel of a Ferrari SF-23 at the legendary Imola circuit!

This groundbreaking test marks a pivotal moment for Cadillac, which is gearing up to become F1’s 11th team next year. For months, the team has been immersed in simulations, preparing its roster of development drivers to transition into the high-octane world of F1 racing. However, until now, they have largely been confined to virtual training. That all changed when Cadillac struck a deal with Ferrari to borrow the SF-23, a two-year-old model that complies with F1’s regulations for testing previous cars.

On Wednesday, Imola buzzed with excitement as approximately 30 Ferrari engineers collaborated with around 20 Cadillac team members, setting up in pit boxes 16 and 17. The atmosphere was electric, with Perez, a seasoned veteran of F1, ready to unleash the performance of the naked carbon fiber-clad car over a two-day test. Notably, this very vehicle was first warmed up by Ferrari’s test driver, Arthur Leclerc, just the day before at Fiorano, showcasing the seamless cooperation between the two teams.

Cadillac’s team principal, Graeme Lowdon, spoke exclusively about the significance of this test, emphasizing that it’s not just about the car, but about developing a winning culture within the team. “Current team testing is kind of what we’re interested in. We want to use a car because, in all of the simulations, we try and make it as real to life as possible,” Lowdon asserted. His message was clear – the focus is on honing the skills and procedures of the team, not merely gaining an advantage through the car itself.

Lowdon underscored the importance of practical experience, saying, “You have to get the mechanics used to that muscle memory of operating an F1 car. There’s just the size of a car and the heat that comes off one, and the presence that they have.” The strategic vision is to ensure that Cadillac’s mechanics are as well-prepared as their competitors, ready to tackle the demands of the F1 season head-on.

However, not all of Cadillac’s future drivers are on board just yet. While Perez is revving up for the 2026 season, his future teammate, Valtteri Bottas, remains tied to Mercedes as a reserve driver until the end of 2025. The anticipation is palpable as fans and insiders alike await the full integration of these talents into the Cadillac fold.

As Cadillac embarks on this exhilarating journey, the motorsport community watches closely. With Perez’s expertise and the collaborative effort with Ferrari, the groundwork is being laid for what could be a formidable presence on the Formula 1 grid. Will Cadillac rise to the challenge and make a mark in the highly competitive world of F1? Only time will tell, but one thing is for sure – the race to 2026 just got a whole lot more exciting!
