Cadillac’s Bold Move: Tapping Rivals for Crucial F1 Testing Ahead of Groundbreaking 2026 Season

In a stunning twist in the high-stakes world of Formula 1, American automotive giant Cadillac is gearing up for its debut season in 2026 by strategically borrowing a rival team’s car for essential testing. As the race to the starting line intensifies, this unprecedented move underscores the urgency for Cadillac to accumulate vital testing mileage before their inaugural race.

Set to make history as the 11th team in the prestigious F1 arena, Cadillac has already confirmed star drivers Valtteri Bottas and Sergio Perez to take the wheel. However, due to their rookie status, Cadillac is ineligible for Testing of Previous Cars (TPC) miles, prompting them to secure a lending agreement with an unnamed competitor. Speculation runs rampant that the car will be sourced from none other than Ferrari, the Italian powerhouse that will supply Cadillac with its engines.

The pressure is on as Cadillac races against time to finalize its 2026 contender. Team Principal Graeme Lowdon has made it clear that the foundation must be solid for success on the track. In an exclusive interview, Lowdon revealed the team’s proactive approach to testing, stating, “We don’t have a TPC car or a current car that we can operate, but we are already simulating race events.” The upcoming simulation at Monza is being treated as a full-scale race, with team members integrated into the process from Thursday through Sunday.

Lowdon emphasized the significance of these simulations, revealing, “The last one we simulated involved 50 or 60 engineering personnel fully engaged over the entire weekend, both in the UK and the US, all getting accustomed to collaborating.” This level of preparation is crucial as Cadillac aims to hit the ground running when the lights go out in Melbourne next year.

With a palpable buzz around the team’s 2026 preparations, Lowdon asserted, “We have a very clear plan in our build-up to Melbourne, and it doesn’t just involve simulating races.” He further elaborated that the team’s focus extends to ensuring all personnel are familiar with each other and their roles, mitigating any potential confusion on race day. “We won’t be in a position where people are hearing voices for the first time or working with each other for the first time,” he said, showcasing Cadillac’s commitment to seamless teamwork.

The excitement is building, with Lowdon pointing out that car testing will be introduced this year, as regulations permit collaboration with other teams. “We just have a plan to steadily build up so that when we get to Melbourne, we hit the ground running,” he noted, highlighting the importance of the drivers in this process. His enthusiasm was contagious as he stated, “There’s a huge amount of enthusiasm to get going.”

As the automotive titan sets its sights on making a splash in the world of Formula 1, the stakes have never been higher. The pressure is mounting, and with every simulation and partnership, Cadillac inches closer to establishing its legacy in this adrenaline-fueled sport. Will they rise to the challenge and carve out their place among the racing elite? Only time will tell, but one thing is certain: Cadillac is coming, and they mean business.
