Cadillac Makes History: Sergio Perez Takes Ferrari F1 Car for Groundbreaking Test at Imola!

Cadillac Roars into Action: Sergio Perez Takes Ferrari SF-23 for a Spin at Imola!

In a groundbreaking move that has sent shockwaves through the motorsport world, Cadillac has officially stepped into the fast lane of Formula 1! The American automotive giant is gearing up to make its highly anticipated debut on the F1 grid in 2026, and it just hit a major milestone by testing a Ferrari SF-23 at the iconic Imola circuit. Buckle up, because the excitement is just beginning!

Regular driver Sergio Perez, a seasoned veteran in Formula 1, has taken the wheel of the sleek Ferrari SF-23, marking a pivotal moment for Cadillac as it transitions from simulation to reality. With a flurry of activity surrounding the team, Cadillac is now set to become the 11th team on the F1 roster, and the clock is ticking as they prepare for the 2026 season.

Until now, Cadillac’s efforts have largely been confined to the virtual realm, relying on simulations to fine-tune their operations. But thanks to a collaborative agreement with Ferrari, the team finally got its hands on a two-year-old SF-23, perfectly aligned with F1’s regulations regarding the testing of previous cars. This bold move opens the door for Cadillac to gain invaluable real-world experience on the track.

In a remarkable display of teamwork, around 30 members from Ferrari joined forces with 20 Cadillac personnel, transforming pit boxes 16 and 17 at Imola into a hive of activity. Over two thrilling days, Perez will pilot the Ferrari, which boasts a stunning naked carbon fiber livery, while the team hones its operational skills in a genuine F1 environment. Just days prior, the SF-23 had been shakedown-tested by Ferrari’s own Arthur Leclerc at Fiorano, setting the stage for this momentous occasion.

Graeme Lowdon, Cadillac’s team principal, spoke exclusively at the recent Singapore Grand Prix, shedding light on the team’s objectives with this Ferrari loan. “The goal is to immerse our team in real trackside operations and provide hands-on experience with a current-spec F1 car,” Lowdon explained. “We want to ensure our mechanics are equipped with the muscle memory necessary to operate an F1 car effectively.”

He further clarified the intent behind the testing: “Our focus is not on gaining an edge from the car itself but rather on preparing our people. We want our mechanics to have the same experiences as those working in the pit lane each day. The heat, the size of the car, and the presence it commands – they all contribute to the learning process.”

As Perez revs up for these crucial test days, another Cadillac driver, Valtteri Bottas, will have to bide his time. The Finnish racing star remains committed to Mercedes as its reserve driver until the end of the 2025 season, leaving fans eager to see how this dynamic duo will perform once they finally unite.

With this exhilarating track outing, Cadillac is not merely testing a car; they are carving a path toward their F1 future, demonstrating their relentless pursuit of excellence. As the countdown to 2026 accelerates, the motorsport community will be watching closely to see how this bold new contender reshapes the landscape of Formula 1. The stage is set, and Cadillac is ready to make some serious noise!
