BYD has confirmed that it will begin production in Brazil starting in March 2025, which will be the largest factory of the Chinese brand outside of China.
The official announcement was made during the visit of Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and BYD’s Executive Vice President Stella Li to the Camaçari factory in Bahia, which is in the final stages of construction.
BYD’s factory in Brazil is the first assembly line for automobiles in the South America region and will aim to become a hub to serve the entire region.
In the first phase, BYD expects to produce up to 150,000 vehicles by the end of 2025, primarily to supply South American markets, and this number is expected to rise to 300,000 in 2026. Additionally, the Brazilian government indicated that this investment is expected to create 10,000 direct jobs by 2025 and 20,000 by the end of 2026.
The first models that will be assembled in Brazil by BYD will be the plug-in hybrid SUV Song Pro and the fully electric Dolphin.
