BYD has just expanded its Sealion range with the new compact SUV Sealion 05, currently only available in the Chinese market. The 100% electric model joins the Sealion 7, which is already available in the national market, as well as the Sealion 05 DM-i, a partially electrified alternative.
Based on BYD’s e-Platform 3.0 Evo, the new Sealion 05 is equipped in its base version with a 188 hp synchronous permanent magnet electric motor, installed on the rear axle, powered by a 50 kWh LFP battery, which claims a range of 430 km in the CLTC homologation cycle.

In addition to the base version, the Sealion 05 is available in China with a 215 hp electric motor, combined with a 60 kWh battery, which promises a range of up to 520 km, and DC fast charging from 30% to 80% in just 18 minutes.
The new Sealion 05 measures 4.52 meters in length, 1.86 meters in width, 1.63 meters in height, and has a wheelbase of 2.72 meters. In addition to its compact dimensions, BYD’s new SUV also features a trunk with a capacity of 600 liters, which can be expanded to 1,460 liters with the rear seats folded down, along with a “frunk” in the front with 110 liters.

Inside, the highlight is the 12.8’’ infotainment screen and an 8.8’’ LCD instrument panel, located through a three-spoke steering wheel, along with a gear selector positioned on the steering column.
BYD also announced that the new 100% electric compact SUV is equipped with a wide range of technology, particularly the BYD’s God’s Eye C intelligent driving system, which comes standard and does not require LiDAR sensors, featuring five millimeter-wave radars, 12 ultrasonic sensors, and 12 cameras.

It is worth mentioning that the new compact SUV from the Chinese brand, which is already available in the Chinese market, is expected to reach the European market, although the brand has not yet confirmed this, considering that the Sealion 07, which we have already had the opportunity to test, is already being sold in the national market.
The BYD Sealion 05 EV is available for purchase in China in three trim levels, with prices ranging from $16,240 to $19,000, or €15,040 to €17,600.
