BYD, the world leader in vehicles powered by new energy and electric batteries, took advantage of its presence at the Munich Motor Show to confirm its production plans for its first factory in the region and to unveil its second Super Hybrid model, the BYD Seal 6 DM-i Touring.
This is the first station wagon from the Chinese brand that focuses on a plug-in hybrid powertrain, which combines a 1.5-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine with two electric motors, allowing for a claimed range of 1350 km in the WLTP cycle.
The new model, which will arrive on the national market later this month, will be available in two versions, with two power levels and battery capacities: the Boost version with a maximum power of 184 hp and a 10 kWh battery, which powers the two electric motors and allows for a range of up to 50 km in 100% electric mode. The Comfort variant offers a maximum power of 212 hp and a 19 kWh battery that claims an electric range of up to 100 km.
The Super Hybrid with DM technology can be used in two different driving modes: the EV mode, which powers the wheels exclusively through the electric motor. In HEV mode, the gasoline engine provides energy to the battery and the electric motor through an inverter, maintaining the responsiveness of a fully electric vehicle. However, whenever additional power is needed, HEV mode can combine the electric motors with the gasoline engine.
In terms of aesthetics, the Seal 6 DM-i Touring features an exterior design inspired by the oceans with smooth lines and a luminous signature, with a double “L”, and the rear lights are connected by an LED strip.
The Seal 6 DN-i Touring measures 4.84 meters in length, 1.87 m in width, 1.50 m in height, and has a wheelbase of 2.79 m, providing more space in the cabin.
According to the Chinese manufacturer, the new car comfortably accommodates five adults, “including ample leg and headroom in the rear seat.” The trunk has a capacity of 500 liters, which can reach 1535 liters with the rear seat folded in a 40/60 split.
In the cabin, the highlight is the floating rectangular screen of 12.8″ or 15.6″, depending on the version, and a steering wheel with shortcut buttons for more intuitive control.
