BYD announced that the first units of the Yangwang U7, a model that promises to rival the leading sedan brands in the Chinese market, have started rolling off the production line.

Created by BYD’s luxury division, the Yangwang U7 is a highly anticipated model in China, having been presented at the 2024 Beijing Auto Show. However, pre-sales only started in November of last year. The luxury sedan was finally launched in March of this year, but BYD took over two months to begin production of the luxury sedan.

It is worth noting that the U7 is a 100% electric vehicle, being slightly smaller than the plug-in hybrid version, and is equipped with four electric motors, one for each wheel, for a combined power of 1287 hp.

These figures allow the U7 to claim an acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.9 seconds and reach a top speed of 270 km/h. The four electric motors are powered by a 135.5 kWh battery, which offers a range of up to 720 km on the Chinese cycle, CLTC. It should be noted that the Yangwang U7 features a body designed by Wolfgang Egger, former designer at Audi, and has a drag coefficient of 0.195 Cd, which contributes to its high range.

The interior of the new 100% electric model is available in two equipment levels, with four and five seats, and features a 12.8’’ OLED touchscreen in the central console. In addition, the front passenger has a 23.6’’ screen and a similarly sized instrument panel for the driver. Meanwhile, the rear seat passengers have two 12.8’’ screens available.
