Bubba Wallace Trolls Michael Jordan in Hilarious Q&A as 23XI Racing Revamps for Redemption in 2025

The 2025 NASCAR Cup Series season is revving up, and Bubba Wallace is bringing fresh energy and a playful edge to 23XI Racing. With the disappointment of 2024 behind them, Wallace and his No. 23 team are looking to make a statement this year. Evidence of this newfound optimism was on full display during the team’s production day, where Wallace didn’t just showcase his cheerful demeanor but also indulged in a hilariously bold claim during a social media Q&A session.

Wallace’s jab at Jordan: A calculated punchline

One fan couldn’t resist putting Wallace on the spot with a tricky question: Would you rather fight Tyler Reddick or Michael Jordan? Tyler Reddick, his teammate, may not seem intimidating at 5’5″, but facing off against 6’6″ NBA legend Michael Jordan—a global icon and co-owner of 23XI Racing—seems like a daunting task. Or does it?

With his signature humor, Wallace replied, laughing uncontrollably:
“That’s a good one; I feel like Tyler be scrappy. If you just punched MJ in his kneecaps, he would go down. So I’ll go MJ.”

Wallace’s quip wasn’t just a random jab. It turns out he had done his homework. Jordan has a history of knee issues, including surgery for torn cartilage and recurring problems from his playing days. Wallace playfully leveraged this fact, imagining a strategic strike to take the basketball legend down. While NASCAR fans may never see Wallace vs. Jordan in the ring, the lighthearted banter has already won over the internet.

Can Wallace channel confidence into on-track success?

Behind the jokes, Wallace knows 2025 is a pivotal season. His 2024 campaign fell short of expectations, with the No. 23 struggling to find the consistency needed to compete at the front. Despite shared resources and similar setups with Tyler Reddick’s No. 45 team, Wallace couldn’t replicate his teammate’s success. While Reddick clinched the regular season championship and powered his way to the Championship 4 in Phoenix, Wallace’s team struggled to convert opportunities into victories.

In response, 23XI Racing made a bold move, replacing long-time crew chief Bootie Barker with Charles Denike. Barker isn’t leaving the organization entirely; he’ll transition into a new role focused on car preparation and strategy. Denike, a rising star with nine Truck Series wins under his belt, now faces the immense pressure of leading a Cup Series team. Building chemistry with Wallace quickly will be critical if the No. 23 team wants to bounce back.

23XI Racing’s rise and Wallace’s role

While Wallace had a challenging 2024, 23XI Racing as a whole proved it’s a team on the rise. Reddick’s dramatic win at Homestead-Miami to secure a Championship 4 spot marked the team’s first appearance in NASCAR’s title showdown. That momentum, coupled with significant organizational changes, sets the stage for a potential breakthrough year for Wallace.

For Wallace, the stakes are high. The new pairing with Denike brings a fresh perspective, but it also means heightened expectations. Wallace will need to deliver results to prove that the No. 23 can match the performance of its sister car.

A new season, a new mindset

Wallace’s playful jab at Jordan isn’t just a funny anecdote—it’s emblematic of a driver who seems more relaxed and ready to take on the challenges ahead. The 2025 season offers Wallace a clean slate, and with changes in leadership and strategy at 23XI Racing, he has the tools to make it his best season yet.

As Wallace and his team prepare for Daytona, fans are left wondering: can the No. 23 team finally unlock its potential and make Bubba Wallace a consistent contender? If his confidence and humor are anything to go by, the answer might just surprise us all.
