Antron Brown emerged victorious in the final round of the 36th annual Denso NHRA Sonoma Nationals, defeating Tony Stewart to claim his third win of the 2024 season. The event, which took place at Sonoma Raceway, saw Brown dominate the competition and secure his 77th career victory. Brown’s success at Sonoma is unmatched, as he now holds the record for the most Top Fuel victories at the facility, tying with Doug Kalitta. Brown expressed his love for Sonoma and his admiration for Stewart, highlighting their past conversations about racing budgets and their shared passion for the sport. Despite Stewart’s impressive performance, Brown’s team’s consistency and skill ultimately led to their triumph.

In the Funny Car category, Bob Tasca III proved to be unbeatable throughout the weekend. Tasca secured his second win at Sonoma in three years, defeating Ron Capps in the final round. Tasca’s victory was a result of his team’s exceptional performance and his own driving prowess. Tasca qualified in the top spot and continued to impress with his fast runs and precise driving. Despite a moment of uncertainty in the final round when his car experienced tire issues, Tasca managed to maintain his lead and secure the win. Tasca’s win solidifies his position as a top contender for the championship title.

Aaron Stanfield continued his winning streak in the Pro Stock category, securing his third win in four races. Stanfield’s victory also contributed to Elite Motorsports’ success, as the team has now achieved six consecutive victories. Stanfield’s impressive run in the championship round against Cory Reed resulted in a well-deserved win. Stanfield acknowledged Reed’s performance and dedicated his victory to a friend who recently passed away from cancer. Stanfield’s driving skills and determination have been key factors in his success this season.

In Pro Stock Motorcycle, Matt Smith claimed his first win of the season in emphatic fashion. Smith had an exceptional weekend, qualifying in the top spot, setting a track record, and winning the GETTRX Pro Stock Motorcycle All-Star Callout. Smith’s win in the final round against teammate John Hall marked a significant milestone for him, as it ended his winless streak that had lasted since September of the previous year. Smith’s victory puts him back on track for a potential seventh world championship title. Smith expressed his gratitude to his sponsor, Denso, and emphasized the importance of teamwork and the 60-foot area in their success.

The NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series will continue with the 42nd annual Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals at Brainerd International Raceway in Brainerd, Minn., from August 15-18.
