San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy has become one of the greatest Cinderella stories in pro sports in less than two calendar years.
In September 2022, he was third on their depth chart after being the last player chosen in the draft that year, and even though the team thought highly of him internally, he was merely an afterthought as the season started.
But injuries to Trey Lance and Jimmy Garoppolo forced him into the starting spot in Week 13, and since then, he has taken off like a space shuttle.
Purdy is about to take part in the Super Bowl, and while this type of rapid success could go to the heads of many, he has remained grounded, thanks in part to his parents, whom he gave lots of credit to, per 95.7 The Game.
“There are plenty of observers and pundits who still feel Purdy is nothing more than a benefactor of San Francisco’s great talent and head coach Kyle Shanahan’s brilliant coaching, but little by little, more people are waking up to the fact that he is an outstanding QB.
He was at or near the top of the NFL in many key categories this season, and he led the 49ers to back-to-back come-from-behind playoff wins to get to this point.
Purdy has abilities Garoppolo never displayed, especially his mobility, accuracy on passes beyond 15-20 yards, and his ability to make quick reads.
A victory on February 11 over the defending world champion Kansas City Chiefs would complete this amazing story for Purdy, at least for now.
