British racing star Dan Ticktum blasts FIA stewards: ‘Dreadful’ policing fuels chaos in Formula E

British racing sensation Dan Ticktum has unleashed a blistering tirade against FIA race stewards after a chaotic incident at the Mexico City E-Prix, igniting a storm of controversy in the all-electric Formula E series. As the dust settles from the thrilling second race of the 2025/26 season, which saw Nick Cassidy snatch victory and leap to the top of the drivers’ leaderboard, Ticktum found himself at the center of an explosive four-car collision that spelled disaster for his race.

The Cupra Kiro driver, notorious for his audacious and aggressive racing style, has yet to finish a race this season, having also retired in the Sao Paulo E-Prix just a few weeks prior. Following the harrowing turn five incident in Mexico, Ticktum didn’t hold back, branding his fellow competitors as “petulant children” over the team radio. But it was in his post-race interview where his ire truly erupted, directing his frustration towards the stewards.

“The stewarding level in this championship at the moment is just dreadful,” Ticktum declared with a fierce intensity. “Everyone is driving like a***holes. There are loads of half moves and lunges, and not all of it is the drivers’ fault. It’s just not being policed properly, and it feels like a rental car race out there.”

Ticktum was particularly incensed by a previous encounter with fellow driver Antonio da Costa, who he claims hit him a couple of laps before the crash that ultimately ended his race. “I lost three or four places and da Costa gets a warning for it. I don’t know in what other championship in the world you can hit another driver and only lose a few positions without facing any consequences. It’s just a joke!”

But who is Dan Ticktum, and why does he spark such heated debates among fans and pundits alike? Entering his fifth season in Formula E, Ticktum has consistently been a controversial figure. His aggressive maneuvers have drawn sharp criticism from not just commentators, but also from fellow racers, including Formula 1 star George Russell. Following a notorious incident involving Max Verstappen at the previous year’s Spanish Grand Prix, Russell likened Verstappen’s reckless driving to Ticktum’s style, a comparison that Ticktum took as a compliment.

In a cheeky Instagram response, he stated, “Thank you for the free publicity, we’ll take that any day of the week! While what Max did was a little bit sceptical, to be likened to him at any point in my career is positive, if you ask me.”

As the 2025/26 Formula E season progresses, it remains to be seen how Ticktum’s fiery comments will impact the racing dynamic and the role of the stewards. With tensions running high on the track, one thing is certain: Ticktum’s unapologetic approach and the ensuing drama will keep fans on the edge of their seats. The question looms large—will the FIA respond to the outcry and tighten their grip on race regulations, or will it be business as usual in this high-octane world of electric racing?
