Briatore Puts Jack Doohan on Notice Amid Alpine’s Franco Colapinto Signing Drama

BREAKING NEWS – Jack Doohan Promoted to Full-Time Race Seat with BWT Alpine F1 Team for 2025

The 2025 Formula 1 season hasn’t even started, but Alpine’s driver lineup is already under the spotlight. Flavio Briatore, Alpine’s Executive Advisor, has confirmed that Jack Doohan will begin the season alongside Pierre Gasly, despite swirling rumors about Franco Colapinto’s future within the team. However, Briatore’s blunt comments suggest Doohan’s seat may not be as secure as it seems.

Colapinto’s Meteoric Rise and Alpine’s Bold Move

Alpine recently announced that they had signed Franco Colapinto on a multi-year deal after an agreement with Williams. The Argentine rookie made headlines last season by replacing Logan Sargeant mid-year at Williams. Despite limited experience, Colapinto managed two points finishes in just nine starts, showing flashes of brilliance alongside veteran Alex Albon.

However, a string of late-season incidents caused interest from Red Bull and Sauber to fade, leaving Colapinto on the sidelines for 2025. His signing with Alpine, though, has reignited speculation about his return to the grid—and possibly sooner than expected.

Jack Doohan Starts, But for How Long?

When asked if Doohan is guaranteed to start the season, Briatore’s response was laced with trademark bluntness. “The only thing we can be sure of is death!” he told Le Parisien.

The Australian driver made his Formula 1 debut in the season finale at Abu Dhabi, but it seems his place within the team could be on thin ice. Briatore hinted that while Doohan will start alongside Gasly, his position will depend entirely on his performance relative to his teammate.

“After that, we’ll see as the season progresses,” Briatore added. “If there’s a driver who isn’t making progress, who isn’t bringing me results, I change him. You can’t be emotional in F1.”

Alpine’s Ruthless Strategy

Alpine’s approach signals a no-nonsense strategy for the upcoming season. With Briatore emphasizing the importance of results, the message to Doohan is clear: deliver or risk being replaced mid-season.

Colapinto’s signing, according to Briatore, is a long-term investment, but the Italian hasn’t ruled out an earlier-than-expected return to the cockpit for the 20-year-old. “We are very pleased to come to an agreement with Williams Racing to sign Franco Colapinto,” Briatore said. “Clearly, Franco is among the best young talents in motorsport right now.”

Pressure Mounts on Alpine’s Drivers

Alpine’s driver dynamics could face significant shifts throughout the 2025 campaign. While Pierre Gasly enters the season as the senior driver with a proven track record, Doohan will need to hit the ground running to avoid being overshadowed—or replaced.

Colapinto, meanwhile, has proven he’s capable of seizing opportunities when they arise. With Alpine’s notoriously high standards, the young Argentine could soon find himself back on the grid.

What’s Next?

The 2025 season promises drama not just on the track but within Alpine’s garage. Doohan faces the pressure of proving his worth, Gasly aims to solidify his leadership role, and Colapinto waits in the wings for his next chance to shine. One thing is certain: Briatore and Alpine won’t hesitate to shake things up to secure results.
