BWT Alpine F1 Team has officially announced that Jack Doohan will be stepping up to a full-time race seat for the 2025 FIA Formula 1 World Championship season. The 21-year-old Australian, who has served as the team’s Reserve Driver for the past two years, will partner with the experienced Pierre Gasly, creating a balanced driver lineup that blends youthful energy with seasoned expertise.
Doohan’s promotion marks a significant milestone as he becomes the first Alpine Academy prospect to graduate into a race seat with the team. The son of legendary five-time 500cc motorcycling world champion Mick Doohan, Jack has carved his own path in the world of motorsport, rising through the ranks with impressive performances in the junior categories.
His journey to Formula 1 has been marked by notable achievements, including finishing runner-up in the 2021 FIA Formula 3 Championship and securing third place in the 2023 FIA Formula 2 Championship. His time as Alpine’s Reserve Driver in 2024 has also been invaluable, contributing to the team’s development through extensive simulator work and testing.
One of Doohan’s standout moments came at the 2023 Hungarian Grand Prix, where he made history in Formula 2 by becoming the first driver to achieve pole position, win the race, set the fastest lap, and lead every lap of a Feature Race. Over two seasons in Formula 2, he recorded six wins, five pole positions, and several podium finishes, cementing his reputation as one of the sport’s rising stars.
As Doohan prepares for his full-time role in 2025, he will continue his responsibilities as Reserve Driver for the remainder of the 2024 season. This includes participating in Testing of Previous Cars (TPC) events and providing crucial support in the team’s simulator on select race weekends.
Reflecting on his promotion, Doohan expressed his excitement and gratitude: “I am so happy to secure promotion into a full-time race seat in 2025 with BWT Alpine F1 Team. I am very grateful for the trust and belief by the team’s senior management. There is so much work ahead to be prepared and ready, and I will give my best in the meantime to absorb as much information and knowledge as possible to be ready for the step up. It’s an exciting moment, a proud day for my family, and I look forward to taking it all in and pushing hard behind the scenes.”
With Jack Doohan’s promotion, BWT Alpine F1 Team is clearly focused on a future driven by talent and potential. The team’s new lineup, combining Gasly’s experience with Doohan’s youthful promise, sets the stage for an exciting 2025 season as they aim to climb the ranks in the fiercely competitive world of Formula 1.
