George Russell was in the fight for fourth place in the Mexican Grand Prix Formula 1, but ended up in sixth. The Mercedes driver was overtaken by Lando Norris (McLaren) near the end, after having to manage the brake temperature… damaging the tire temperature.

After the good feelings aboard the W14, brake overheating problems dictated the need to slow down, and the consequent loss of tire temperature was irrecoverable for #63: ‘I felt very good in the car, the pace was there, so it’s definitely a positive aspect of this weekend. I was right behind Carlos [Sainz] wanting to overtake when my brakes overheated. We were worried about finishing, so I had to slow down and that’s where I lost all the temperature in the tires and couldn’t put them back in the right window. It was like driving on ice in the last 20 laps, so I’m glad to have finished in sixth’, he explained.

Pleased with the pure performance of the Mercedes, Russell now looks forward to the next round: ‘Another difficult weekend for us, but the car performed well. We just need to have some problem-free weekends and show consistency, but I’m confident we will achieve that. I’m looking forward to Brazil and I hope we show some good pace there too and hopefully we’re in a position to fight for the podium’.
