The debate over NASCAR’s season finale venue has reignited, and RFK Racing co-owner and driver Brad Keselowski is adding his voice to the conversation. With widespread criticism of Phoenix Raceway’s recent championship events, the 2012 Cup Series champion has proposed a bold shift: moving the finale to Darlington Raceway or Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Keselowski’s Call for a Change

Taking to social media, Keselowski shared his thoughts on where NASCAR’s ultimate race should be held.

“Been thinking about this one for awhile. I really like both [Darlington] or [Charlotte] as a season finale. What do you all think?” he wrote, referencing the iconic “Too Tough to Tame” track and the home of the Coca-Cola 600.

While NASCAR’s COO recently confirmed that the sanctioning body is exploring alternatives to Phoenix and Homestead-Miami, Keselowski’s suggestions have sparked a lively debate among fans and insiders. Both tracks he proposed hold a special place in NASCAR’s history, with Darlington known for its unforgiving layout and Charlotte serving as a cornerstone of the sport.

Why Darlington or Charlotte?

Keselowski’s picks reflect a desire for a challenging, high-stakes venue to crown NASCAR’s champion.

  • Darlington Raceway: Known as “The Lady in Black,” this track is famed for its difficulty and history, making it a fitting stage for a season finale. Its abrasive surface and narrow groove demand precision, ensuring a test of skill and endurance for drivers.
  • Charlotte Motor Speedway: The home of NASCAR’s longest race, the Coca-Cola 600, Charlotte is steeped in tradition. Its combination of history, fan accessibility, and competitive racing could provide the excitement needed for a memorable championship-deciding event.

RFK Racing’s Revamp for 2025

As Keselowski shares his vision for NASCAR’s future, RFK Racing is gearing up for a significant overhaul heading into 2025. After a disappointing 2024 season that saw the team eliminated in the playoffs’ first round, Keselowski revealed that missed opportunities at Atlanta, Watkins Glen, and Bristol were the catalyst for change.

“The playoffs were a big disappointment for us in 2024,” Keselowski admitted. “We thought we’d be really strong, but between bad luck and poor execution, we just didn’t get through the first round.”

The team is adding a third car to its lineup and making crew changes aimed at improving consistency and race-day performance. Keselowski’s comments reflect a renewed sense of purpose within RFK Racing, which will be looking to return to playoff contention and build momentum in the new season.

The Bigger Picture: NASCAR’s Finale Debate

Keselowski’s call for a change comes amid growing dissatisfaction with Phoenix Raceway as the championship venue. Critics argue that Phoenix lacks the dramatic flair and competitive excitement necessary for a proper season-ending spectacle. With NASCAR exploring alternatives, Keselowski’s suggestions of Darlington or Charlotte could gain traction as the sport looks to revitalize its marquee event.

What’s Next?

As the 2025 season approaches, all eyes will be on NASCAR to see if it makes the bold move to shift the finale to a new location. Whether it’s the grueling demands of Darlington or the storied tradition of Charlotte, Keselowski’s suggestions have struck a chord with fans eager for change.

For Keselowski and RFK Racing, the upcoming season also represents a chance to turn the page on a disappointing 2024. With new team members and a renewed focus, the No. 6 Ford Mustang driver is poised to lead his team into a competitive future.
