Bottas remains silent regarding potential comeback to Mercedes F1 in 2025.

Valtteri Bottas, the Finnish driver who previously raced for Mercedes alongside Lewis Hamilton, has remained tight-lipped about the possibility of returning to the team next year. However, he has made it clear that his “priority” is to stay with Sauber until Audi joins Formula 1 in 2026. Bottas and Hamilton formed a successful partnership, helping Mercedes secure eight consecutive titles. But since the introduction of ground effect cars in 2022, Mercedes has struggled to maintain its dominance. As a result, Hamilton has decided to activate a break clause in his contract and move to Ferrari for the upcoming season. Bottas expressed surprise at Hamilton’s decision but understands the appeal of reviving Ferrari’s fortunes. Speaking at the unveiling of Sauber’s livery for the 2024 season, Bottas acknowledged the challenge and motivation Hamilton would have in bringing Ferrari to the top. He believes this move will create movement in the sport and benefit all drivers. As Mercedes searches for Hamilton’s replacement, a social media post revealed that Bottas recently visited Brackley, where the Mercedes team is based. It is speculated that Bottas could be a short-term solution as an experienced partner for George Russell. However, Bottas reiterated that his main ambition is to stay with Sauber until it transforms into Audi in 2026. He emphasized his commitment to the Audi project but also stated that he would consider other teams if the Audi opportunity doesn’t materialize. Bottas made it clear that his priorities are clear.
