Pirelli’s Tire Testing Blitz in Mexico: Bottas Shines, Vesti Follows Suit!
In an electrifying climax to the tire development tests for the highly anticipated 2026 racing season, Pirelli wrapped up its final day in Mexico City on October 29. The air was charged with excitement as top drivers took to the track, putting their skills and the new tires to the ultimate test. Leading the charge was none other than Valtteri Bottas, the formidable third driver for the Mercedes-AMG F1 team. He navigated the track in a mule car based on the current W16 model, showcasing the prowess of the latest tire compounds.
Bottas kicked off the day with a rigorous testing schedule, much like his Sauber counterpart Gabriel Bortoleto did the day before. The Finnish ace sampled a variety of tire compounds, ranging from the C3 to the C6, with a significant focus on the sturdiest option, a tire that is expected to be a fan favorite during race weekends. In total, the testing extravaganza saw 161 laps completed, covering an astounding 693 kilometers on the Hermanos Rodríguez circuit. With track temperatures soaring to a blistering 49°C, the conditions mirrored those expected during a real race, providing invaluable data for the teams. Across the two days of testing, a whopping 1278 kilometers were clocked, setting the stage for what promises to be an exhilarating season ahead.
