Pirelli’s Tire Testing Blitz in Mexico: Bottas Shines, Vesti Follows Suit!

In an electrifying climax to the tire development tests for the highly anticipated 2026 racing season, Pirelli wrapped up its final day in Mexico City on October 29. The air was charged with excitement as top drivers took to the track, putting their skills and the new tires to the ultimate test. Leading the charge was none other than Valtteri Bottas, the formidable third driver for the Mercedes-AMG F1 team. He navigated the track in a mule car based on the current W16 model, showcasing the prowess of the latest tire compounds.

Bottas kicked off the day with a rigorous testing schedule, much like his Sauber counterpart Gabriel Bortoleto did the day before. The Finnish ace sampled a variety of tire compounds, ranging from the C3 to the C6, with a significant focus on the sturdiest option, a tire that is expected to be a fan favorite during race weekends. The intensity of the session was palpable as Bottas completed a series of performance runs, meticulously warming up the tires to the perfect temperature before pushing them to their limits.

The tire testing did not stop with Bottas; Frederik Vesti, who had just participated in the first practice session in Mexico, took over the wheel later in the day. Vesti’s participation added another layer of depth to the testing, with the young driver clocking an impressive lap time of 1:19.657 on his 41st lap. Meanwhile, Bottas’ best was a jaw-dropping 1:18.204 on his 109th lap. However, fans should remember that these times are not representative of competitive racing, given the specialized nature of the testing environment.

In total, the testing extravaganza saw 161 laps completed, covering an astounding 693 kilometers on the Hermanos Rodríguez circuit. With track temperatures soaring to a blistering 49°C, the conditions mirrored those expected during a real race, providing invaluable data for the teams. Across the two days of testing, a whopping 1278 kilometers were clocked, setting the stage for what promises to be an exhilarating season ahead.

Looking forward, the next round of tire testing is set for December 9 in Abu Dhabi, coinciding with collective testing sessions post-race weekend. All teams will participate, ramping up the anticipation for the next generation of racing tires. As the countdown to the 2026 season continues, fans and teams alike are on the edge of their seats, eagerly awaiting the next developments in this high-octane saga. Stay tuned, the race for supremacy is just heating up!
