There may be a real market “bomb” about to happen in Formula 1. Fernando Alonso arrived at Aston Martin this year with long-term prospects, but he may be about to retire – in addition to the team changing hands, with Lawrence Stroll stepping down.

The paddock at the Mexico City GP was buzzing with rumors, and renowned Spanish journalist Albert Fabrega highlighted one in particular without details: ‘I don’t want to believe the rumor I was just told in the paddock. No,’ he wrote on X.

Another journalist who covers F1 in the paddock, Daniel Bialy, posted on the same social network: ‘Do you like the fresh smell of gossip in the morning? Alonso will leave Aston Martin and the team will soon change ownership. Right now, it’s just a wild rumor and we’ll soon see how much it’s confirmed.’

If Alonso leaves Aston Martin, he could only have one option to continue in F1 – there is an officially open spot at Williams, as Logan Sargeant did not renew. In response to Albert Fabrega’s speculation, X users began to question whether the end of his career may be on the horizon – which doesn’t seem credible, considering the good performance that the Spaniard continues to regularly display, capable of fighting at the front when the equipment allows it.

On the other hand, the change of ownership at Aston Martin seems to be a more likely scenario. Lawrence Stroll also invests for his son Lance Stroll, whose abilities seem to not go much beyond the modest results and performances that have been seen. The Canadian billionaire could sell his stake in the brand for a hefty sum, as there are rumors that the Chinese giant Geely is seeking to take full control of Aston Martin.
