BMW is kicking off 2025 with the debut of its second-generation 2 Series Gran Coupe, bringing significant upgrades in power, design, and technology. Set to hit U.S. showrooms in March 2025, the updated four-door coupe comes with more horsepower, a sleeker cabin, and a starting price of $40,775.
The 2025 model continues to be powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, but BMW has reworked its combustion geometry and dual injection system, resulting in 241 horsepower for the 228 sDrive and xDrive models. The high-performance M235 xDrive model takes it up a notch with 312 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque, though this is slightly less torque than the 2024 model’s 332 lb-ft. The revamped powertrain pairs with a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox, which replaces the previous eight-speed automatic transmission.
For those who enjoy speed, the 228 xDrive can now accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 5.8 seconds—0.2 seconds quicker than before. The M235 xDrive completes the same sprint in 4.7 seconds, which is 0.1 seconds slower than the 2024 version despite its higher horsepower. An M Sport Boost function is included with the M Sport Package, allowing drivers to maximize acceleration by holding the left paddle shifter for one second.
“Fresh Design, Larger Footprint”
The second-gen 2 Series Gran Coupe is slightly larger, 0.7 inches longer and 1.0 inch taller than its predecessor, while retaining the same width and wheelbase. The car comes standard with M Sport styling, highlighted by bold intakes under BMW’s iconic kidney grille and a distinctive embossed “2” on the Hofmeister kink. The rear is framed by squinty LED taillights, and buyers can choose between 18- and 19-inch alloy wheel designs, which can be wrapped in all-season, summer, or performance tires.
“Upgraded Interior and Tech”
Inside, BMW has equipped the new 2 Series Gran Coupe with its Curved Display running on BMW OS 9, offering a modern tech interface for drivers. The cabin also boasts wireless charging, a standard 12-speaker Harmon/Kardon sound system, and newly designed heated sport seats. For the first time, BMW offers massaging front seats as an option, further enhancing the comfort of the interior.
Standard upholstery comes in leather-free perforated Veganza, and drivers can enjoy the ease of a redesigned gear selector. BMW’s M Adaptive Suspension is standard, though traditional suspension setups are available at no additional cost.
“Price and Availability”
BMW will begin production of the 2025 2 Series Gran Coupe later this year at its Leipzig, Germany factory, with U.S. sales starting in March 2025. The lineup includes:
- 228 sDrive Gran Coupe starting at $40,775
- 228 xDrive Gran Coupe priced at $42,775
- M235 xDrive Gran Coupe priced at $50,675
These prices reflect an increase of $1,380 over the 2024 models, with the $1,175 destination charge now up from $995. The 228 xDrive and M235 xDrive will be the first models to hit showrooms, with the 228 sDrive following in mid-2025.
With its improved powertrain, tech upgrades, and refreshed design, the 2025 BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe aims to offer a more refined and engaging driving experience, further solidifying its place in the compact luxury sedan market.
